What it comes down to is this: there is nothing that prepares you for dating in New York City, besides dating in New York City.
In most places, the three-date rule applies, meaning you might wait three dates to score, at which point you’ll probably start thinking about where the relationship is headed. The phobia is so strong that planning date two might seem like a giant step. The local mom and pop restaurant might be a cute date spot in a small town, but in New York, part of impressing your date and setting the mood is the spot you choose.
Wouldn't it be nice to have some expert advice on New York City dating etiquette and get some pointers on what NOT to do?
Unfortunately, I have been out of the dating game for years and was never very good at it to begin with.
Last call at the bar is usually the last sweep of who is going home with whom.
And I will be the first one to admit that most NYC men have a little bit of an entitlement issue when it comes to women. But I would call them "repercussionless daters." Their mentality is such that if the woman they are on a date with isn't giving them exactly what they want, they have no problem ending the date abruptly and moving on to the next woman, who they believe is around the corner waiting in desperation to go out with them.In most places men are expected to pursue and woo women, but Manhattan is an exception. For every hot girl, there is another hotter one with a more driven career ethic right around the corner (like, the bar corner).I dated a guy who lived in Hoboken while I lived in Manhattan.Charity events and volunteer groups are also great.Chelsea Piers and Harry's Cafe on Wall Street are also very man-friendly places.
